South Asia Program a Resounding Success

Animated dialogues on government, the media, health care, education and, especially animated, the U.S. elections marked the November closing seminar for the Indian, Pakistani, and Sri Lankan Fellows of the 2004 Single Region Program. The Eisenhower Fellows and their spouses, who had traveled throughout the U.S. meeting with eminent doers and thinkers in their fields at a unique moment in U.S. history, examined these and other areas important to their region through the prism of their recent fellowship experiences. Among those they had encountered in their quest for new ideas and perspectives were business leaders, migrant farm workers, national and local government officials, heads of NGOs, and political party organizers. Within their own three-country group, the new Eisenhower Fellows gained the kind of cross-border understanding and strong bonds of friendship and trust that lie at the heart of the Eisenhower experience.
