Item Posted: February 26, 2009 Three Fellows Named Young Global Leaders by World Economic ForumSamer Asfour, '05, Jordan (far left), Nia Dinata, '08, Indonesia (center), and Jason Yat-Sen Li, '02, Australia (far right), have been named as part of the 2009 class of Young Global Leaders by the World Economic Forum. This honor recognizes and acknowledges between 200 and 300 outstanding young leaders from around the world for their professional accomplishments, commitment to society, and potential to contribute to shaping the future of the world. Drawn from a pool of almost 5,000 candidates, the Young Global Leaders 2009 were chosen by a selection committee, chaired by H.M. Queen Rania Al Abdullah of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, comprising 31 eminent international media leaders. Asfour is the Commissioner for Investements for the Goverment of Jordan (the New Development Zones in Jordan). Dinata is a celebrated film director. Li is Managing Director of Yatsen Associates. The YGLs convene at biannual summits, as well as Forum events and meetings throughout the year, and collaborate on initiatives to tackle some of the key challenges of our generation. Fellow to Head National Development and Innovation BoardKhashchuluun Chuluundorj, '07, Mongolia, was appointed head of the Mongolia National Development and Innovation Board. The Board is a new government agency reporting directly to Prime Minister and which is charged with creation of national development plan, coordination of its implementation and also with support of private sector, public private partnership and improvement of competitiveness. |
USA Fellow Receives Katharine Hepburn MedalJane Golden, '03, USA, was presented with the the Katharine Hepburn Medal by the Katharine Houghton Hepburn Center at Bryn Mawr College. The medal recognizes women whose lives, work, and contributions embody the intelligence, drive, and independence of the four-time Oscar-winning actress. Golden, who is director of the Philadelphia Mural Arts Program, received the award on February 7 at the National Constitution Center from Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter and Bryn Mawr President Jane McAuliffe. |
Fellow Named CEO, Jerusalem PharmaceuticalsIyad Masrouji, '08, Palestine, has been named CEO of Jerusalem Pharamaceuticals and was elected Chairman of the Union of Palestinian Pharmaceutical Manufacturers. Masrouji was previously vice president of the Jerusalem Pharmaceutical Company. |

MNP 2009 Fellow from Northern Ireland Receives AwardSeamus O'Prey, '09, Northern Ireland, who will arrive for his fellowship as a part of the 2009 Multi Nation Program in April 2009, was the recipient of the Invest Northern Ireland SMART Award for Innovation. He was presented with the award on February 11, 2009. O'Prey is the General Manager of Ortus - The Business Development Agency, and will study corporate finance, corporate social responsibility, environmental and sustainable development, and information and technology development during his fellowship.
