2009 Agriculture Program Recruitment

In fall 2008, Eisenhower Fellowships USA program will conduct recruitments for our Agriculture program. The successful candidate for the Eisenhower Agriculture fellowship will be a farmer aged 32-45 with excellent networking avenues, demonstrated leadership experience, U.S. citizenship, and a commitment to at least 15-20 years of further active leadership in the field of agriculture. The Fellowship covers all international and domestic travel, hotel accommodations, and meals for Fellow and spouse.

Possible Destination Countries:

  • Africa: South Africa
  • Asia: China, China (Taiwan), India, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, 1 week adjunct program in Indonesia
  • Europe: European Commission (Brussels) Germany, Ireland, Russia, Sweden
  • Latin America: Argentina, Brazil, Chile , Mexico, Peru
  • Middle East: Egypt, Jordan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia
  • Oceania: Australia, New Zealand

Eisenhower Fellowships strives to integrate our USA programs as much as possible with our international programs. Therefore, we seek to identify and will give preference to agriculture candidates whose fields of interests correspond with current international program priorities. In 2009, Eisenhower Fellowships will conduct a Common Interest program entitled, Fueling Growth which will focus on energy, the environment, and economic growth. Fueling Growth will offer a unique opportunity for emerging world leaders to examine the issues, devise solutions, and undertake follow-on projects as part of the EF network. USA fellows will travel to selected countries abroad to focus on such issues as:

  • Development and commercialization of efficient energy technologies, including renewable energy technologies and nontraditional fuel sources;
  • Public policies and private sector strategies to finance energy production and provide effective distribution infrastructures;
  • Impact of energy regulation and deregulation at the local, regional, national and international levels;
  • Regional and international cooperation on energy and environmental issues;
  • Environmental considerations in energy production, distribution and consumption.

All USA Fellows will participate with fellows selected from Australia, Brazil, China, Egypt, France, India, Indonesia, Nigeria, Russia, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey.

CRITERIA FOR EISENHOWER FELLOWS – USA PROGRAM

  • Eisenhower Fellowships seeks to identify emerging leaders in fields important to the development of their regions and who would benefit significantly from an intense 4-8 week professional and leadership exposure abroad. In recommending and nominating candidates, the following criteria should be used:
  • Five to ten years of demonstrated exemplary leadership, as well as an expectation of at least 15-20 years of higher level leadership contributions, implying a preferred age range of 32-45
  • Demonstrated impact in the individual’s professional field, as evidenced by rapid advancement and significant accomplishment within the person’s institutional and regional context
  • Active leadership in broader professional/community activities, demonstrating a concern for improving society beyond one’s own basic job focus
  • Integrity, energy, and motivation to make a difference, as evidenced in the individual’s statement of purpose, overall conduct, and testimony of others
  • Breadth of perspective and enthusiasm for continued learning, reflected in the range of expressed interests and activities that extend beyond the specific professional specialty
  • Likelihood of actively contributing to the home region and to the larger Eisenhower network, based on a prior networking record of dialog and work with others for common purposes
  • Ability to design and articulate appropriate fellowship program objectives, reflecting thoughtful analysis and including achievable goals and objectives specifically linked to professional broadening and leadership development.
  • Demonstrated potential for advanced leadership and societal impact through influence on key policies or in important operational areas, as evidenced by the individual’s prior career progression and personal attributes
  • "Value added” of Fellowship to significantly enhance leadership strength and impact, based on comparatively limited recent international exposure
